  • A music festival—held at Ebb and Flow Fermentations in downtown Cape Girardeau on August 21—raised funds for those affected by an early April tornado in Delta as six local bands played and a $12 donation at the door was collected, with all proceeds going to the Baptist Church of Delta.  Fox 23
  • A Jackson High School senior’s painted parking spot featuring a large fry earned local recognition from McDonald’s — the restaurant awarded Grady Bahner a free large fry every week for the rest of the school year and treated his advisory class to fries. Bahner said he painted fries because they are his favorite food.  Fox 23

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motor vehicle crash closed the Southern Expressway in the 2000 block and drivers are advised to use West End Boulevard or Kingshighway as alternate routes—crews work the scene.  Fox 23
  • A crash on the 2000 block of Southern Expressway from Kingshighway to West End Boulevard in Cape Girardeau is blocking traffic as two semi-tractor-trailers are involved, one driver is being extricated, and a hazmat team is addressing an oil slick—drivers are urged to use alternate routes.  KFVS12

CRIME NEWS

  • A Jackson man was charged after he fired multiple shots during a road rage incident near South Mt. Auburn and North Kingshighway Tuesday evening — officers used the Flock Camera System to identify and arrest him on felony charges including first-degree assault and armed criminal action, and he is held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.  Fox 23
  • A 30-year-old Tennessee man named Logan Hale was arrested for allegedly stealing over $350 worth of cigars from a Cape Girardeau store when surveillance cameras captured him entering through a window and dumping the cigars into a trash bag — he is now held in jail with a $25,000 bond.  KFVS12
  • Cape Girardeau police responded to a shooting in the 2800-block of Themis on August 20 at 9:50 p.m. — upon arrival they found a person injured with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg — and the victim was taken to a local hospital for further treatment.  Fox 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Francis Healthcare partnered with Jackson R-2 High School to launch the IGNITE Program that gives high school juniors and seniors hands-on clinical experience in healthcare. Thirty-three students were selected for the 2025 to 2026 school year and will combine classroom lessons with real-world work — a step to grow the local healthcare workforce.  Fox 23

SPORTS NEWS

  • Southeast Missouri Food Bank and SEMO’s athletics department are in their fourth Sack Hunger campaign during the 2025 season as Redhawks defenders turn sacks into money for meal donations — sponsors like Coalter Insurance, First Midwest Bank, Midwest Sterilization Corp. and Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo will give $100 per sack to feed families. The campaign built on 30 sacks last season and will host a tailgate on Sept. 6 before the home opener against North Alabama.  Fox 23
