ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Cape Girardeau Police are investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash at 1:37 a.m. on August 23 at the intersection of William Street and Sheridan Drive—21-year-old Arion Patterson died and 20-year-old Alyssa Williams suffered minor injuries.  KFVS12
  • A two-vehicle crash early Saturday at the intersection of William and Sheridan streets left one person dead and one injured — the 2008 Honda Civic driver died while the 2020 Nissan Altima driver had minor injuries at about 1:37 a.m., police said.  Fox 23

CRIME NEWS

  • A 62-year-old Cape Girardeau man is accused of striking another man with a metal baseball bat on Aug. 22 on North Main Street — John F. Knoch was arrested on assault second-degree and armed criminal action charges and is held at the county jail on a $50,000 cash bond.  KFVS12

FINANCE NEWS

  • Ameren Missouri announced Monday that eligible customers can now qualify for up to $1,400 in bill payment assistance through programs like Dollar More—offering up to $600 for households with past-due bills—and Keeping Cool to help with energy costs. The company has partnered with local agencies and urges customers to use online tools to track their energy usage and manage bills.  Fox 23
  • Ameren announced that Missouri and Illinois customers can now apply for energy bill help—Missouri customers may get up to $1,400 while Illinois customers can seek $150 through local programs to cover higher bills and summer heat.  KFVS12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, the county sheriff’s office took part in mutual aid training with Region E Homeland Security Response Team—practicing rope rescue and rappelling techniques—with Jackson Fire & Rescue, Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Sikeston Department of Public Safety and Stoddard County Ambulance District. Officials said the session enhanced teamwork and safety for a quicker response.  Fox 23

SPORTS NEWS

  • SEMO football is partnering with the SEMO Food Bank for its fourth annual Sack Hunger campaign this season, where each sack by the Redhawks defense will trigger a $100 donation from sponsors—helping to provide about 1,600 meals per sack for families in need. A Sack Hunger tailgate will be held before the home opener against North Alabama on Sept. 6.  Fox 23
