ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Tuesday morning, the Advance Fire Department responded to a residential fire at a single-story home in Advance—firefighters rescued the family's pet and received help from Bloomfield and Bell City with no injuries reported.  Fox 23
  • After two fatal crashes, Cape Girardeau police urged drivers today to stay alert and avoid distractions like cell phones, slow down near school zones, and move vehicles out of the roadway if involved in a crash—Officer Bobby Newton stressed these measures as school is back in session.  Fox 23
  • Four VA officers from John J. Pershing VA Medical Center saved a man and six children by quickly treating crash victims on Marble Hill Road while they were headed to training—they used medical supplies and called EMS so that all injured were transported to hospitals.  Fox 23

CRIME NEWS

  • Ishmael I. Blackmon was arrested on Tuesday, August 26 for drug trafficking and possession of controlled substances after law enforcement raided a home on the 900 block of Bloomfield Road+ investigators found nearly 1 kilogram of meth, 10.2 grams of crack cocaine and 28.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms.  KFVS12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Kehoe recognized Stoddard County Deputy Lori O’Dell for being named the 2025 D.A.R.E. International Officer of the Year—she has served 20 years and expanded the drug prevention program to all seven schools in the county.  Fox 23
  • The Missouri Department of Transportation announced plans to replace several bridges in southeast Missouri, including the Route 25 and Route 61 bridges in Cape Girardeau County, with work starting as early as spring 2026 and roadway closures lasting about three months. Affected residents can submit a written request for a public meeting by September 16+ directed to Assistant District Engineer Jason Williams.  KFVS12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two Jackson Senior High School students were named Youth Heart Ambassadors by the American Heart Association for the 2025–2026 school year—Kate Lipke, who has survived three open-heart surgeries, and junior Jimmy Williams, a heart transplant recipient—who will help promote heart health, stroke awareness and Hands-Only CPR education in schools.  Fox 23
