CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Cape Girardeau man was arrested Monday evening in Marble Hill after police found two large bags of a white crystal substance and a digital scale in his vehicle during a shoplifting investigation — he was charged with delivery of a controlled substance and required to post a $30,000 bond. - ➤ The Better Business Bureau warned older consumers today about 'grandparent scams' after 13 people—one of whom is a man from Defiance—were charged in an international fraud ring that used voice cloning to mimic family members and pressure victims to send money. Fox 23
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Old Town Cape will host a reception on September 5 to celebrate new sculptures featured in a downtown exhibition—six large sculptures will be installed along Broadway until June 2026—and an artist meet and greet is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. KFVS12
- ➤ Old Town Cape will host a reception on Sept. 5 at the Broadway Bistro & Event Center to unveil the 2025 Downtown Sculpture Exhibition—featuring six large-scale sculptures along Broadway where visitors can meet the artists. The event will include an outdoor concert called Tunes at Twilight from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is part of First Friday with the Arts. Fox 23

- ➤ Cape Girardeau County Sheriff Ruth Ann Dickerson accepted a donation from the Jackson Noon Optimist Club—funds will provide safety resources and educational materials to children and families in the county. Fox 23
- ➤ The Cape Girardeau Police Department set no parking signs at Arena Park starting Friday, Sept. 5 to control traffic for the SEMO District Fair and will tow vehicles from Saturday at 6 a.m. Additional signs will appear at Capaha Park, North West End Boulevard, and Perry Avenue for the parade starting Saturday at 9:30 a.m.—only authorized vehicles may use these areas.
