COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Old Town Cape, Inc. will host its annual Revivify: Farm to Table fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 21st from 3 to 7 p.m. along Spanish Street in downtown Cape Girardeau where local chefs will serve a four-course meal with ingredients from Cape Riverfront Market vendors — live music, a silent auction, and other activities are planned and tickets cost $100.  Fox 23
  • Safe House of Southeast Missouri director Jessica Hill will step down at the end of September to become chief public affairs officer at the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence. She has led the safe house since 2015 and has overseen projects that include building a new shelter and expanding outreach services.  Fox 23
  • The Cape Girardeau County Archive Center will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a free open house (2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3) at 112 E. Washington St. in Jackson. Dr. William Eddleman will speak at 2 p.m. as visitors enjoy guided tours of the facility’s exhibits.  Fox 23

  • The American Red Cross is urging Cape Girardeau families to prepare for disasters during National Preparedness Month by creating emergency plans and assembling go-kits with supplies—measures that help protect against tornadoes and home fires.  Fox 23
  • The Cape Girardeau County Commission ordered flags on county buildings to fly at half-staff until dusk on Sept. 4 to honor late Recorder of Deeds Janet Robert—who served 33 years in office.  KFVS12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Joe Richardson from Southeast Missouri Suicide Prevention and Erin Randol of Sunrise Therapy Services urged local families to overcome the stigma around mental health and seek help early for issues like postpartum depression, emphasizing that support and listening can save lives—details that highlight the Heartland's focus on suicide prevention.   • On Saturday, September 13, Cape for a Cure will be held at the Elks Lodge with live music by Pastor Bob Lenz, food trucks, games and a silent auction—at 5:30 p.m., a showcase will reveal new advances in testing and technology for Alzheimer’s caregivers. The event leads to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 11 at Capaha Park—a follow-up effort to boost early detection awareness.  KFVS12
