- ➤ Local veterans’ groups will host the 7th Annual Patriot Day BBQ at VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau to thank first responders for their service. The event will serve barbecue, beans and slaw for EMS, firefighters, rescue workers and law enforcement officers—sponsored by SEMO Vets, Marine Corps League Cpl. Mason O. - ➤ Crews are putting finishing touches on rides, food trucks and other attractions at the SEMO District fairgrounds at Arena Park, where the fair opens today and runs daily until September 13—vendors, carnival rides and over 900 large animals are ready for visitors. KFVS12
- ➤ Cape Girardeau County seniors gathered with law enforcement for the annual Senior Information Day organized by SALT—Seniors and Lawmen Together, where officials said the event connected older residents with needed resources. Fox 23
- ➤ Friends of Wyatt is pushing to bring Childhood Cancer Awareness license plates to Missouri roads—its founders started the group after their son was diagnosed with cancer and now need more applications to make the plates a reality, while planning events for 2026. Fox 23

- ➤ A Jackson man, 21-year-old Brock Benton, fired multiple shots while drunk on the 100 block of North Legend at 8:45 p.m. on September 4 and now faces charges for unlawful use of a weapon—his breathalyzer reading was .220 BAC. KFVS12
- ➤ A Dexter man was arrested on drug trafficking and paraphernalia charges after a Sept. 3 traffic stop for not having a front license plate—authorities said the ongoing investigation may lead to further charges. Fox 23
