- ➤ Jackson Chamber of Commerce joined local first responders and community members in a memorial walk to honor nearly 3,000 Sept. 11 victims and thank police, fire, EMS, and other emergency personnel for their service — the event celebrated remembrance and community support. Fox 23

- ➤ Gordonville fire units responded on September 11th to assist the Millersville Rural Fire Protection District with a 2-acre natural cover fire near a residence — the Mobile Support Unit and Brush Truck 3617 left Station 1 at 2:44 p.m. to provide support. Fox 23
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ SEMO students and staff are taking part in the 9/11 Hero Challenge today to honor first responders by climbing 110 flights of stairs, said financial services staffer Matthew Kearney. Military and Veterans Services Officer Amanda Woods said the event has run for five years to keep the memory of 9/11 alive. KFVS12

- ➤ AAA Missouri’s Weekend Gas Watch said the average price for a gallon of regular fuel is $2.88 today—one cent lower than last week and five cents less than a year ago—with Jefferson City drivers paying $2.98 and Joplin motorists paying $2.77. Gas demand has dropped by 7% as summer travel slows and the switch to cheaper winter fuel begins. Fox 23

- ➤ Jackson High School students honored the victims of Sept 11, 2001—joining with the Jackson Fire Department for a stair climb in firefighter gear and taking a gallery walk led by librarian Cyndi Roach that reviewed the timeline of the attacks. Fox 23
- ➤ Southeast Missouri State University will host Homecoming October 16-18—featuring a Fearless Fest block party, a parade on Broadway, and a Redhawks football game at Houck Field. - ➤ A student club at SEMO lets students of all majors explore AI programming and cloud computing for real-world learning. - ➤ A KYTC contractor will set up a daytime work zone at the I-69 Exit 25/U.S. 45 interchange in Graves County on Sept. 17 and 18 to install high mast lighting poles — which will require intermittent ramp closures and lane restrictions on both I-69 and U.S. 45. Meanwhile, MoDOT crews will reduce I-55 southbound to one lane — closing the on ramp from Route 74 in Cape Girardeau as they work on bridge repairs from 6 a.m. Sept. 28 to 10 a.m. Sept. 29. Fox 23
- ➤ During their Monday meeting, Cape Girardeau County Commissioners approved tax rates for five taxing entities by setting the general revenue tax at $0.0786 per $100 assessed valuation and adjusting rates for mental health and senior citizen services—further approving orders such as a deputy coroner appointment and contracts for county projects.
