COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Safe House of Southeast Missouri appointed Kim Dixon as its interim executive director—after Jessica Hill resigned to join the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, whose last day will be September 26—and the board said it will begin its search for a permanent leader immediately.  KFVS12
  • Hadley Dowell exhibited her animals at the SEMO District Fair as part of the 4H club where kids learn to care for livestock—Pu Bauer said the group grew so much that an overflow tent was needed for extra cattle. Dowell noted the fair taught important lessons in work ethic and responsibility.  KFVS12

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Bell City Fire Rescue responded Friday morning to a tractor fire in a field — with the Advance Fire Department providing extra support as heavy smoke spread miles and crews quickly contained the blaze with no injuries reported.  Fox 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Notre Dame Regional High School senior Nicholas Dial was named a semifinalist in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program—placing him among the top 1% of high school seniors nationwide. He will now have the opportunity to advance to the finalist stage and compete for nearly 7,000 scholarships valued at $26 million.  Fox 23
  • Students from SEMO have been named national finalists in the College Media Association’s Pinnacle Awards for their work with the Arrow—an honor reflecting excellence in student media. They are finalists in eight award categories and winners will be announced from Oct. 15 to 18 in Washington, D.C.—showcasing emerging talent.  Fox 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cape Girardeau Police Department honored its women officers on National Policewoman Day—recognizing their service and dedication to community safety.  Fox 23
  • Cape Girardeau Councilwoman Tameka Randle announced on Tuesday that she will seek re-election to represent Ward 2—citing her record in economic development, public safety and fiscal responsibility. She said her work has strengthened local neighborhoods and improved quality of life for residents.  Fox 23
