- ➤ Earl DeWaal, the LDS Church leader in Cape Girardeau, said his thoughts and prayers went to those hurt by last weekend’s shooting and fire in Michigan, and he recalled the church building fire in 2021. He said these hard times show that violence can happen and urged folks to work together to keep peace — adding that his church’s new building will be finished by spring. KFVS12
- ➤ Old Town Cape, Inc. unveiled its 2025 Christmas ornament featuring the First Presbyterian Church as part of its annual series—only 228 pieces were produced. The ornament costs $30 with a stand or $25 without—available at local Cape Girardeau retailers. Fox 23

- ➤ Ten SEMO students have been selected as finalists for the 2025 Man and Woman of the Year awards — winners will be announced on Oct. 18 during Homecoming, recognizing their leadership and community service. Fox 23

- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation says over 1,000 black bears are foraging for food to fatten up for winter—residents should secure trash, pet food and other items that might attract bears. The agency warns that allowing bears easy access to food can lead to dangerous encounters with people, pets and property. KFVS12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the DOT finalized a four-year contract with Contour Airlines to continue air service at Cape Girardeau Regional Airport, planning seven weekly flights to Chicago + five to Dallas and adding two weekly flights to Pensacola starting April 1. KFVS12
