- ➤ Safe House of Southeast Missouri is hosting Domestic Violence Awareness Month events this October — including weekly scavenger hunts and Friday food truck evenings — and will debut its new live music event, The Next Level, on Oct. 11 at Buckner-Ragsdale Event Center from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets cost $50 online to support its programs. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Safe House of Southeast Missouri helps victims of domestic violence in Cape Girardeau and surrounding counties by offering shelter, safety planning, and referrals, with over 600 people using the services each year—Jessie Green, the case manager, added calls to the hotline are even higher. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Nell Holcomb School enjoyed a special visit when Cape Copters pilot Jeff Venus landed his helicopter on the playground to share lessons from his time as a pilot and Marine—he also introduced his service dog Winnie and school officials thanked Cape Copters for the engaging educational experience. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two southeast Missouri men—Frank Robinson of Perryville and Roger Brooks Sherman of Sikeston—are among the 2025 inductees to the Missouri Veterans Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Rotunda of the State Capitol and is open to the public. Fox 23
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe appointed Joseph Murray III as Circuit Judge for the 24th Judicial Circuit, which covers Washington, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve and Madison Counties, and named Julia Koester as Circuit Judge for the 32nd Judicial Circuit covering Bollinger, Cape Girardeau and Perry Counties. KFVS12
