- ➤ Cape Girardeau is preparing for its 4th Annual Riverfront Fall Festival on Saturday, October 25th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. across Riverfront Park, the Kellerman Foundation parking lot and along Water and Themis streets—local businesses are invited to join the Downtown Scarecrow Contest as visitors enjoy artisan vendors, food and drink booths, children’s games and live music. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local airlines at Cape Girardeau Regional Airport face financial strain as the ongoing government shutdown leaves federal aviation funding uncertain. Airport Manager JoJo Stewart said DOT provided funds through November 2—but if additional funding is not secured, flight schedules will be reduced after November. Fox 23
- ➤ Some Head Start programs face a future without federal funds as the shutdown continues, and a local provider is operating normally for now with a grant buffer until January 1—if the shutdown extends past then, over 1,000 children could lose their only source of healthy meals and community services may suffer. - ➤ Two advanced practice providers have joined Mercy Clinic General Surgery — Broadway at 1723 S. Broadway in Cape Girardeau to expand access to surgical care that includes biopsies, gallbladder, hernia, and skin surgeries. Nurse practitioner Sydney VanGennip and physician assistant Addison Caraway, returning to their Southeast Missouri roots, will offer patient-focused care at the clinic. Fox 23

- ➤ Corbin Wallace, a 16 year old, became the first successful hunter of the 2025 black bear season by harvesting a 300 pound male bear on private land plus he hunted with his grandfather, Robert Wallace. The season opened Saturday and will run through Oct. 31. Fox 23
