- ➤ The United Way of Southeast Missouri donated $3,000 from its emergency fund to food pantries serving Cape Girardeau, Perry, Bollinger and northern Scott Counties to help families facing food shortages. - ➤ A 16-inch water main feeder broke in the 1000 block of Bertling on November 5 — causing lower water pressure in a Cape Girardeau neighborhood as water now flows through smaller backup pipes, and Alliance Water is testing the water with results expected today. KFVS12
- ➤ Happy Slapowitz Toy Bash will return to downtown Cape Girardeau on December 12. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Spanish Street — donors are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or $10 to support the Marine Corps League’s Toys for Tots program and the Jaycees’ Toybox event. - ➤ Ameren Missouri increased its Veterans Fund with an extra $25,000 to offer more than $90,000 in energy assistance to military members and veterans facing high energy bills ahead of Veterans Day. - ➤ Millersville Rural Fire Protection District and the Missouri Department of Conservation announced the acquisition of nearly three acres along Highway BB for a new firefighter training ground and future Station 4—plans include adding an engine and brush truck bay along with wildland firefighting training—construction is set to begin next year.
