- ➤ On Saturday the Knights of Columbus in Cape Girardeau hosted a chili dinner to honor Officer Henry Franklin of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety — all proceeds went to The BackStoppers Inc., a nonprofit that supports families of first responders who suffer tragic losses. Fox 23
- ➤ The Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau is accepting gently used or new coats until Thursday and will start giving out coats for kids in need on November 17—Captain Lily Reinier said the drive is more crucial this year due to a rise in donations and volunteer interest. Fox 23
- ➤ Local Artist Craig Thomas finished a new mural for the Uptown Jackson Revitalization Organization on the Charmed building at 130 S. High Street with a ribbon cutting held Nov 5 to celebrate its opening. - ➤ After decades of service, Key Drugs owner Marty Michel announced his retirement and John’s Pharmacy will take over operations effective Dec. 1—prescription records will move from 910 N. Westwood Blvd to 909 W. Pine St without any action needed from patients. The transition unites two family-run pharmacies that have served southeast Missouri for over 35 years. Fox 23
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Disaster Recovery Centers opened on Nov. 10 in Cape Girardeau and six other counties to help residents repair damage from severe storms between March 30 and April 8. FEMA and SBA representatives assisted with applications and answered questions—centers closed on Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. Fox 23
- ➤ On November 7, the Children’s Trust Fund approved $400K — aimed at reducing food insecurity — for Missouri families with infants and young children. The funding allocates $100K to Feeding Missouri and $300K to the Missouri Parenting Partnership Home Visiting Program — allowing agencies to buy formula and food — to support families amid the shutdown. - ➤ More than 600 customers in Cape Girardeau lost power on Monday when a device outage struck the grid—by 2:30 p.m. only 119 were still without power, and full restoration was expected by 4:30 p.m. KFVS12

- ➤ Southern 7 Health Department partnered with Grandparents for Vaccines to share real stories about vaccines and help parents learn why shots are important.
