- ➤ Women Walking with Intention is a free meeting for women at Shawnee Park Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 15 — five speakers will cover topics like family, jobs, and spirituality. Organizer MaKenya Owens said the event will help women learn to ask for help and share support — free lunch and a casual dress code make it welcoming. KFVS12
- ➤ Church Women United President Shirley Renaud presented the 2025 Human Rights Award to Tameka Randle at the World Community Day event on Nov. 7 at St. James AME Church. Randle, the CEO of PORCH and a Cape Girardeau City Council member who recently announced her re-election campaign, was honored for her strong work for the community. Fox 23
- ➤ Seniors and Lawmen Together will host a Senior Christmas Party from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Eagles Aerie at 321 N. Spring St.—the event will have music, snacks and door prizes for area seniors to celebrate the season with local law enforcement. Fox 23
- ➤ Impact One More wrapped up its annual Thanksgiving food box drive last week, thanking volunteers and donors for their support. The nonprofit made over 60 calls on November 10 to notify those on the waiting list and accepted donations at partner drop-off spots such as Rock of Cape Church and Eagle Ridge Christian School. - ➤ High school juniors tested bridges made from balsa wood, string, and glue at MoDOT’s 22nd Annual Bridge Building Competition on Wednesday at Southeast Missouri State University. Ste. Genevieve High School, Perryville Area Career and Technology Center, and Chaffee High School earned top honors while individual winners were recognized for constructing bridges that held heavy weights — the event showcased creative student engineering. - ➤ Perry County officials announced that all lodging providers, including hotels, motels, campground cabins, and short-term rentals, will add a 6% tourism tax starting Dec. 1—tax revenue will fund local tourism projects and operators must submit collected funds monthly to the County Treasurer’s Office. - ➤ Dr. Allison Sindle, a board-certified dermatologist, said the winter’s dry air and habits like hot showers and harsh scrubs can leave skin dry and itchy — using a thick moisturizer and SPF 30 sunscreen can help lock in moisture and protect skin on snowy days. KFVS12
- ➤ Saint Francis Healthcare System announced Dr. Bailey Flamm has joined Cape Care for Women — a Saint Francis Medical Partner in Cape Girardeau where she will offer obstetrics and gynecology care. She earned her degree from Southern Illinois University in 2021 and completed her residency at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. Fox 23
