- ➤ Street Level and Grace United Methodist Church have opened a warming center in Cape Girardeau to offer 40 cots for folks facing cold weather and risky heating options in abandoned houses. Volunteer Coordinator Tara Lang said the center will stay open as long as temperatures drop below 27 degrees — a critical step to keep the homeless safe this winter. KFVS12
- ➤ South Side Farms at West End Boulevard and Walnut Street in Cape Girardeau received funding from the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s Food Insecure Cost-Share Grant Program. It is one of 19 projects to get up to $50,000 each to help lower food insecurity — Agriculture Director Chris Chinn said in a release. KFVS12
- ➤ Cape Girardeau Regional Airport will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, December 1 at 2 p.m.—the event will mark the inaugural flight to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport scheduled to depart at 3:30 p.m., with a ceremonial water cannon salute from the fire department and guest remarks. Officials say the flight is expected to boost travel options and support local economic growth. KFVS12

- ➤ Bell City firefighters visited Bell City R-II Schools to teach students about fire safety and emergency response—students learned to use firefighting equipment, saw live demonstrations, and left with a fire helmet and a goodie bag of safety materials. Fox 23

- ➤ The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says a bright Geminid meteor shower will light the sky next month, with after-dark events at Elephant Rocks in Belleview from 5 p.m. to midnight, Roaring River in Cassville from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Bennett Spring in Lebanon at 8 p.m. Residents are advised to bring chairs and blankets — no telescopes are needed. - ➤ Certified financial planner Derieck Hodges said he still believes important estate planning papers belong in a binder—this binder should hold wills, trusts, IDs, and guides for digital accounts so family members can find them easily during a crisis.
