- ➤ The Scott County Sheriff’s Office announced retired deputy Lindell Eakins died after decades of service as a bailiff and school resource officer at Thomas W. Kelly School in Benton. Sheriff Derick Wheetley said his positive attitude earned respect throughout the community. Fox 23
- ➤ The Salvation Army of Southern Illinois will host its Two Days of Joy on Dec. 19 and 20 to fill red kettles in Jackson, Franklin, Williamson, and Saline counties — volunteers will provide over 200 hours to raise funds for rent and utility help for local families in need. Fox 23
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Funeral arrangements are set for two young children who died in a Perryville fire, with visitation scheduled Friday, Dec. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ford and Young Funeral Home (burial will follow at Home Cemetery). Fox 23
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Southeast Missouri State University is moving ahead with campus improvements including the new Roy Blunt Health Professions Hall (designed for allied health sciences) and upcoming phase two renovations at Houck Stadium. Officials said plans for the stadium project (expected to be detailed in April) will proceed once funding is secured. KFVS12
- ➤ The Jackson R-2 School Board approved a new district-wide emergency plan during its meeting on Dec. 9, which details staff roles and a forthcoming safety app. The board also updated the admissions policy and approved roof upgrades for Jackson Middle School along with other agenda items.
